The Science of Positive Thinking
The power of positivity and positive thinking is not just a philosophical concept, but is also rooted in scientific research.
Studies have shown that positive thinking promotes the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters, which contributes to feelings of happiness and pleasure.
This then reduces the stress levels in the body and increases our overall well being.
By enhancing our well-being, we are able to bounce back from setbacks and challenges with ease, which can help us propel our dreams and goals forward quicker.
As difficult as it may be, it’s important to break the leash of self doubt and adopt a more positive mindset. By doing so, we can unlock the incredible potential that lies within and overcome any obstacles that comes our way.
Cultivating a Positive Mindset
There are many ways to start cultivating a positive mindset and increase positivity in your life.
1. Practicing Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful practice that shifts our mindset from what is lacking in our life to being appreciative for what we have.
When you are discouraged, it can be so easy to get lost in the sea of self doubt, where all you think about is what is missing in your life, instead of being grateful for what you have and appreciate how far you’ve already come.
However, by regularly taking the time to practice graditude and appreciating all you have, you’ll be able to adopt a more positive mindset. Consider starting a gratitude journal to document your blessings daily and acknowledge all the positivity in your life.
Promptly journals has a wide variety of thoughtfully guided journals to help you on your journey towards a positive mindset. Click here or the image below to check them out.
2. Challenging Negative Thoughts
Challenging negative thoughts is another mindset shift to practice.
Negative thinking can hinder personal growth and development, which can then keep you from achieving your goals and becoming your best self.
Challenge these negative thoughts by examining the evidence for and against these negative thoughts and reframing these thoughts with positive affirmations.
Instead of saying “I’m never going to achieve this dream of mine”, try saying “Maybe I need to adjust my methods and try a different route”. Analyze what’s been working, what hasn’t, and adjust accordingly.
3. Surrounding Yourself With Positivity
Surrounding yourself with positivity is a crucial to cultivating a positive mindset as our environment has a profound effect on our lives and can influence our mind.
Seek out supportive friends and groups that can uplift you and support you. Engage with uplifting content such as motivational books, podcasts, music, movies or videos.
You can also create a positive physical space through displaying positive quotes, inspiring pictures, or even a vision board to help you stay focused.
4. Mindfulness and Self Awareness
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully aware of our emotions and thoughts without judgement. By cultivating self awareness through mindfulness, we can identify negative thinking patterns and redirect our negativity towards positivity. We are also able to focus on gratitude and appreciate the beauty of the present moment.
Applying Positive Thinking in Daily Life
So, what are some ways we can apply these concepts to our everyday lives?
1. Embrace Optimism
Optimism is the belief that positive outcomes are possible in the face of challenging times. By adopting an optimistic outlook, we approach obstacles with a more resilient inner strength. We are able to view the glass as “half full” vs “half empty” and we are able to focus on the lessons we learned and how we can grow from the experience. By shifting our mindset, we can maintain positivity and focus on what can be vs what should have been.
2. Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations are positive and uplifting statements to challenge negative thoughts. By repeating these positive affirmations, you can rewire your thought pattern and increase self confidence.
The process of using positive affirmations involves selecting affirmations that align with your personal goals. You then repeat these affirmations over and over. For example, someone who is struggling with achieving their goals can say “I am capable of great things”.
Positive affirmations are so very important in cultivating a positive mindset.

3. Visualizing Success
Visualizing success is a powerful technique that can cultivate a positive mindset. It is the process of creating visual images of achieving our goals and experiencing success.
By regularly visualalizing ourselves achieving our goals, it can reinforce a positive mindset.
Creating a vision board is a way of visualizing our dreams in a tangible manner. Simply find and cut out pictures that represents your dreams and paste them on a sheet of paper, poster board, etc, to give you a visual representation of your dreams.
Or, create a digital vision board. Use a graphic design software like Canva to compile images to create your vision board.
Whichever way you decide to, make sure you put it in a place where you see it regularly throughout the day. If you create a physical vision board, place it on a mirror or the fridge, or if you create a digital vision board, set it as a lock screen picture.
By visualizing success, we are building our confidence in ourselves.

4. Positive Self Care
Although it may seem near impossible to even have time for self care, taking care of our physical, emotional and mental well-being is essential to maintaining a positive mindset. If you’re constantly in overdrive, your mental health will suffer and negativity will set in.
It wasn’t until I went to nursing school, did I learn about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a theory that categorizes human needs into different levels.
It starts with basic needs like food and safety, then progresses to social connections and esteem, and finally reaches self-actualization, where individuals strive to fulfill their full potential and find personal fulfillment. Each level builds upon the previous one, and self-actualization is achieved when lower-level needs are met.
Therefore , it’s crucial to take care of your basic needs first in order to achieve a higher level of well being.
Prioritize self care practices such as healthy eating, exercise, and adequate sleep. Nurture your soul through gratitude journaling, mindfulness and engaging in hobbies that encourages self expression and promotes relaxation. It’s important to take time for you as well.

Acts of kindness can cultivate and foster positivity in our lives as well. Engaging in acts of kindness, supporting others, practicing empathy and compassion can create a ripple effect of positivity in our communities as well.
When we contribute positively to the lives of others, we are cultivating a sense of purpose and connection.
It’s impossible to know what someone else is truly going through and by simply showing kindness and sharing your positivity, can make a profound effect in their life.
Conclusion
Embracing a positive mindset and harnessing the power of positivity can profoundly impact every aspect of your life and wellbeing. By cultivating a positive outlook, you invite optimism, resilience and gratitude into our daily experiences. This mindset can transform how you navigate obstacles, leading to increased confidence, a practical approach to goal setting and a deeper sense of fulfillment.
Positivity nurtures your mental health and soul, while reducing stress and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Ultimately, by embracing a positive mindset, the power of positivity can open the door to joy, growth and fulfillment as well as gratitude and beauty in your life and allow you to become your best self possible.
