Have you ever felt overwhelmed when it comes to reading or studying the Bible? You’re not alone. Many of us want to dive deeper into God’s Word, but we’re not sure where to begin or how to stay consistent.

Personally, I have always wanted to read the Bible in its entirely, and just recently last year, I was able to accomplish just that. This past year, I have really gotten closer to the LORD and started making Him a priority in my life, and He has helped me grow spiritually.

I have learned that there is a difference between reading the Bible and studying the Bible, and while I have read God’s Word entirely last year, there is still so much more to learn and grow in His Word.

So I am on this Bible Study journey with you to grow deeper in God’s Word and that is why I create the Bible Study Digital Journal that I wanted to share with you for free.

This journal consists of hyper linked tabs with the books of the Bible. There are 7 journals total to help you reflect and stay organized as you grow in your faith through studying God’s Word.

In this post, we’ll explore why it’s essential to read the Bible, as well as how to study it effectively, along with some of my favorite free study aids.

Why Read the Bible

The Bible isn’t just a book; it’s God’s living Word (Hebrews 4:12). Here are three reasons why reading the Bible is life-changing:

  1. Know God’s Heart– The Bible reveals God’s character, His promises and His incredible love for us. By reading and studying Scripture, we see His faithfulness, mercy and grace.
  2. Receive Guidance and Wisdom– Life is full of questions, challenges and uncertainties. The Bible serves as a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105), guiding us in our daily lives.
  3. Grow spiritually– Just as our bodies need food, our spirit needs nourishment. By spending time in God’s Word, we build a stronger foundation of faith and deepen our relationship with Christ.

Here are more verses to emphasize the importance of studying God’s Word

2 Timothy 3: 16-17All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (NIV)

Hebrews 4:12- For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (NIV)

Colossians 3: 16- Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts (NIV).

Psalms 1:2-3- But whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers (NIV)

How to Study the Bible + My Favorite Study Aids

Studying the Bible doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Here are some simple tips to help you get started: Disclaimer: Some of the links below are affiliate links, where I may earn a small commission at no extra charge to you if you click on the link.

1. Smart Small

Begin with a manageable portion, such as a chapter a day. You can start a study plan on your own or download a Bible app with built in study plans. I currently use YouVersion’s free Bible app, that I downloaded from Apple’s App Store so I have the Bible on my phone. In addition, I purchased a Chronological Bible for my Kindle, where it, not only puts the events in the order of which it happens, but the entire Bible is divided up into 365 days, so I can read the entire Bible, in chronological order in an entire year. In addition I have purchased the Women’s Study Bible as well.

2. Pray Before You Read

Before reading, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read God’s Word and to reveal to you His understanding and truth. Prayer invites the Holy Spirit to help you discern what you’re reading.

The Holy Spirt is our Helper, Comforter and Guide. John 14: 26 states But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

3. Use the SOAP Method

  • Scripture: Write down a key verse or passage that stands out
  • Observations: What does the text say? What is happening in the passage?
  • Application: How can you apply this truth to your life?
  • Prayer- Write out a prayer based on what you’ve learned

4. Be Consistent

Set aside a specific time each day to study. Even 15 minutes of focused Bible reading can make a big difference.

Personally, I have found that I feel better when I wake up earlier than my husband and little one, to spend time with God. This way I can spend time alone with the LORD and focus on Him.

Yes, there are days when my flesh wants to stay in bed, because 5AM-6AM is really, really early; however my spirit always wants to draw nearer to God. Although, I am not always a morning person, I found that I feel so much better when I start my mornings with God. Those days when I seem to give into my fleshly desire to sleep, I will either dedicate time during the day or at night when everyone else is asleep.

It’s important to find out what time works best for you, as everyone’s circumstances are different. God’s love for us isn’t based on how much time we spend in the Bible. His love is constant and unchanging. Reading the Bible is for our benefit- it helps us grow closer to Him, understand His truth, and align our lives with His will. God completely understands our circumstances and is more concerned with the intent of our heart. Praise the LORD!

This Digital Journal includes hyperlinked tabs to easily navigate to each book of the Bible. There are 7 journals total to accommodate the Bible in its entirety.

This Bible Study Digital Journal is meant to be used with Goodnotes or another note-taking app, where you can use a pencil for digital notetaking. This is the one I’m currently using: Logitech Crayon Digital Pencil. I’ve also enjoyed using the Apple Pencil but mine currently is not functioning, so until I get another one for my iPad, I’m using the Logitech. The Logitech doesn’t automatically connect to my iPad like the Apple Pencil does, but it’s an alternative that I currently have. Be sure to do your own research before purchasing anything. These are just what I’m currently using.

Each book of the Bible has several blank lined pages to take notes. In Goodnotes, you can duplicate pages based on your need.

By the way, if a pink, floral journal isn’t your thing…no worries. I’ve worked too hard on creating this digital journal to only have 1 style. Still sign up below to get access to my free resource library (where it’s located), and check back…more designs will be coming soon!
